Dicitonary.com defines a movement in this sense as, “a diffusely organized or heterogeneous group of people or organizations tending toward or favoring a generalized common goal.”

Now surely you must be asking what this is all about. What’s so important that you have to start a movement. I shall tell you but first, here’s a little story about a boy name Jae.

Jae is an awfully nice guy. He’s friendly and funny, by gosh, most people think he’s a swell cat. Jae, although he really shouldn’be, is shy around girls (the ones he finds attractive, not all girls). So, recently, Jae decided to say FUCK it, and not give a damn about it and just do his thang. You can’t get good at anything unless you practice, so Jae started practicing. He’s been talking to girls at the market, girls at the book shop, girls on the street, basically anywhere there were girls, Jae was like Waldo, there hidden amongst the people, ready to talk to them.

So one night, Jae was at the club. He saw a fairly attractive young lady that he wanted to talk to. Her name it turned out was Nelissa (names have been changed to protect the innocent). Nelissa, it seemed found Jae charming, which by the way is not hard to do, since Jae is rather charming. Jae had a few drinks that night, and was feeling great. That and the practice over the last few weeks, gave him to courage to get the number. She agreed, and Jae was feeling great. He made one crucial error though. He didn’t immediately call back. Now here’s where I end the story and explain what the movement is.

My movement is called the Movement to Curb the Use of Phony Numbers (MCUPN). This practice which I have been aware of but never experienced is quite devastating. Don’t think this is just me, errr Jae, being bitter at rejection, because it’s not. It’s more than that. It’s calculating and mean. If it was just simple rejection, it wouldn’t be bad at all. A girl can just say no thank you, and go about her business. That insta-rejection is fine. The phony digits, however, is an evil act designed to inflict long term pain. Because of the protocol installed by society, men usually wait a few days before calling. For many men, this is an exciting part of the chase. Anticipation of maybe something that could turn into something, if not long term, then at least a few fun dates. If a phony number is involved, all that goes away is replaced by a feeling of dread.

What happens is that it will discourage men from asking for numbers and/or talking to girls. If that were to happen, ladies, what is the alternative. The alternative would be “cats and dogs living together. Mass Hysteria!” You don’t want mass hysteria do you? So tell your friends. Tell your friends unless the guy you’re talking to is a total ass, please do not give out phony numbers. If you have any compassion, just say no! Don’t let Jae down.
