Before i moved here to Chicago, i never experienced any type of flight cancelations. But in Chicago, it seems like it is pretty common during the winter months. During a flight back from LA to Chicago, my flight had to land somewhere in Iowa. I had to spend like 4 hours sitting in a random airport. I was tired and restless. To top it all off, i hate flying. I plan on going over to LA for the Holiday season. I read the weather report that said that it will snow on the day of my flight. I hope that the flight is not canceled. It will be a pain to have to reschedule everything again. I do not want to spend Christmas in some random Iowan airport.

Ambroise Vollard dropped out of law school and started making contacts in the art world. “In 1887, when he first arrived in Paris, however, he had few contacts and no credentials to pursue a career in the art world. What he did have was a good eye for art and the willingness to learn from the knowledge and experience of others who were more informed than he.” (Artic) The show starts off with a timeline of the great art dealer. It goes on to display the works of the artists that he represented in chronological order. It is interesting to see the story behind the great paintings. Many of the paintings feature portraits of Ambroise Vollard. The different interpretations of these portraits of Vollard showcase the different styles of each individual artist. They show Ambroise Vollard as a younger and much thinner man. Other paintings depict Vollard as being very wise and distinguished. Many portraits show Vollard’s cat in the background. In the painting, “Ambroise Vollard with His Cat” by Petie Palais, Vollard almost looks like the “Godfather.”

The exhibit showcases not just painting, but art using other forms of media. There are sculptures, books, and prints. Vollard suggested to his artist to dabble with other forms of art. Ambroise wanted to get into publishing and he had his artists help him illustrate his art books. Walking through the gallery was like watching a documentary about Ambroise Vollard and the famous artists that he did business with. It was interesting to see the personal stories between these great men. It was an added bonus to see a short film clip showing Ambroise Vollard and Renoir sitting together. In the film, an elder Renoir chats and smokes with Vollard. Vollard helps the arthritic Renoir sign one of his paintings. The film was a treat because one could see the type of relationship he had with Renoir. It was also interesting because of the great impact motion picture has in contemporary society and in contemporary art. It appears that Vollard had his hand in that medium as well. One has to wonder if Ambroise started his career today, if he would become a film producer.
